Delphi / SQL Developer – £(50-70K) – Permanent – (Essex / Hybrid / 2 Days in The Office (Mon/Wed)

We are seeking an experienced Delphi / SQL Developer to join our client's growing development team and work on large‑scale, business‑critical enterprise applications used by global clients. This is a senior technical role focused on maintaining, enhancing, and modernising a complex Delphi‑based system with a strong SQL Server backend.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, working with mature codebases, and contributing to long‑term system stability, this role will suit you perfectly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, support, and enhance existing Delphi enterprise applications.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex defects, performance issues, and system bottlenecks.

  • Work closely with business users to translate requirements into technical solutions.

  • Produce clear documentation for updates, fixes, and new features.

  • Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and code reviews.

  • Ensure all development follows secure coding and internal QA standards.

  • Contribute to system upgrades, transitions, and modernisation initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years commercial Delphi development (XE2, XE10 or later).

  • 10+ years Transact‑SQL / MS SQL Server experience.

  • 3+ years .NET C# experience.

  • Strong experience with complex, data‑driven applications.

  • Proven background maintaining or upgrading legacy systems.

  • Experience with visually inherited UIs.

  • Strong debugging, optimisation, and performance‑tuning skills.

  • Experience working within Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid SDLC environments.

  • Familiarity with version control (Git, SVN, etc.).

  • Experience collaborating with QA, Infrastructure, and business teams.

Desirable Knowledge

  • Delphi 3rd‑party components.

  • Windows desktop application development.

  • Multi‑tier architectures, REST/SOAP services, Windows APIs, COM.

  • Secure coding best practices.

  • Leadership or mentoring experience.

Education

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field OR

  • Equivalent professional experience.

  • Relevant certifications are a plus.
